My neighbor asked for advice on helping her little daughter’s friend, a little girl named Alison, who asked my neighbor, “Who made God?” The following is my answer:
“Good morning, (Neighbor), Thanks for the question. Even adults wrestle with answering that question. The answer is simple (no one made God) but very profound, especially for a little child. It’s good that Alison believes in God, but her understanding of God’s true nature will come in time as she is taught what the Bible says about Him. For example, no one will ever read in the Bible that someone or something made God. But, the Bible does teach that God made everything, and He made everything good (Genesis 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25, 31 (read them).
Read to Alison (and Abby) the following: Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 40:28; Hebrews 11:3. I wish I had room to provide more.
For adults,
Job chapters 38-42:6 are loaded with food for thought about God (try it).
Then read John 1:1-4, 14-18, 29; Colossians 1:14-18.
Ultimately, only the Holy Spirit helps us, including little children, to understand these deep truths about God (1 Corinthians 2:9-13).
I challenge you to read all the scriptures I shared. If Alison and Abby hear regular Bible reading, the Holy Spirit will in time open their understanding to truths about God and Jesus Christ.
I hope this helps.
Blessings!
