What is Spirituality? It’s difficult to fully define in a text, but I’ll attempt to give a concise definition. Since the root word is “spirit,” then “spirituality” is different from the physical world. Spirituality has both good and bad sides. The Bible tells of “spiritual wickedness in heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12). It is the spiritual domain of Satan and his demons who control the unsaved and spread wicked influence all over the physical world (Eph. 2:2). The good side of spirituality is centered in Christ (Eph. 1:3). That is so plain because Ephesians chapter one repeatedly says, “in Christ” or “in Him.” The spiritually good person is in Christ and is commended as being mature and discerning by which he reflects the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:15-16). Thus, spirituality includes the saved and unsaved, but there is a wide and deep chasm between them with a long bridge across it, the horizontal piece of the cross of Christ. By faith the unsaved can cross over to the good side and thus be “in Christ.” That’s the good side of spirituality. On which side are you? Blessings!
