Below is my response to a person who denies the Trinity and the personality of the Holy Spirit. He implied that I may have been unconscious when I was taught about the person and work of the Holy Spirit, which is laughable. Here it is:
“Good afternoon (my friend), I was intrigued by your exposition (of his denials). I believe I was fully conscious when I was taught God’s truth by the Holy Spirit. Otherwise, I would not have believed the gospel nor a lot of other truths in the Bible, including the Trinity, the virgin birth of Jesus, the miracles recorded in scripture, the creation, etc.
Regarding the Holy Spirit, Jesus said He will
a. abide with believers forever (John 14:16),
b. teach believers all things (John 14:26d),
c. bring all things to the believers’ memory (John 14:26e)
d. testify of Jesus (John 15:26e) and thus empower
the disciples to be witnesses (John 15:26; Acts 1:8)
e. convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:7-11).
f. guide believers into all truth (John 16:13b)
g. speak only the truth He hears from Jesus (John 16:13c, d)
h. reveal the truth about “things to come” (John 16:e; 1 Cor. 2:10)
Furthermore, the New Testament records the Holy Spirit leading believers to
whom and where to witness as He did with Philip (Acts 8:29-39), Peter (Acts 10:19-20), and Barnabas and Paul (Acts 13:2) and where not to witness (Acts 16:6-7). He also baptizes new believers into the body of Christ (the church) according to 1 Cor. 13:13 and seals believers in salvation (Ephesians 1:13). There’s more, including Old Testament teachings, but space on this text is not sufficient.
I can’t imagine Jesus saying a nonperson will do those great things.
I enjoy interacting with you on these topics. Though we disagree, my love for you is no less and non-vacillating.
Blessings.
