Godliness + Contentment = Great Gain

These words, found in 1 Timothy 6:6, impacted my spirit, along with the rest of the verses (7-10). To me, the gist of the passage seems to say that if I’m not totally contented or satisfied with Christ (my salvation), I will eagerly pursue material gain (e.g., lots of money). Eventually, my pursuit will bring me to “ruin and destruction” (verse 9 NIV). So, this verse helps me to stay focused on seeking the Lord (e.g., His will for my life) and avoiding the wickedness of my flesh that constantly resists my desire to be contented in Christ and strive to please Him (Galatians 5:16-18). Thus, I am satisfied with Jesus and pray that He is satisfied with me.
