Divine Communication
God daily communicates with humanity by at least two basic ways. First, by way of His creation (general or natural revelation). Since the creation came into existence solely by God’s Word (Ps. 33:6; Heb. 11:3), then it is His inaudible and yet informative expression of who He is.
Ps. 19:1 portrays Him as a glorious Creator with skillful hands, and Rom. 1:20 says “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they (all men) are without excuse.” Although the creation reveals the truth about God, it doesn’t reveal how sinful man can “connect” with Him. By nature man is religious because God “implanted” the awareness of His existence and righteousness, according to natural law, in man’s conscience (Rom. 2:12-16). However, sin in religious man causes him to reject general revelation about the true God (Rom. 1:21-23).
Second, God’s other means of communicating is by His written Word, the Bible. See Ps. 19:7-11; 2 Tim. 3:16;
2 Pet. 1:20-21. In many ways it reveals how man can “connect” with the true and loving God, especially John 3:16. It reveals the importance of faith and belief on God (Heb. 11:6). It reveals the holiness of God
(Lev. 11:44-45) and His saving grace (Titus 2:11-14). A third and most important means of God’s communicating is Christ Himself – “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. (Hebrews 1:1-2). Knowing how the bondage of sin heavily weighs down man, Jesus says, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light”
Matthew 11:28-30). I challenge you who don’t know any of the passages by memory to read them. Remember, they are God’s special revelation to us. Blessings!
