Deciding to Attend a Seminar
My pastor friend in Florida texted the following:
“Good morning, Brothers! The following is my response to a brother who asked if he should attend a Christian seminar where the president of the school is gay?
My response: ‘Thanks for your question, brother.
I immediately thought of I Cor. 5:9-13, especially since you mentioned it was a "Christian" seminar with a morally disobedient leader.
By seminar, I was wondering if you are in the audience or on the program. If on program one demonstrates tacit approval of where each person stands, both spiritually and morally, especially if the leader who is a professing Christian is known to be gay, which is clearly a violation of Scripture (Rom. 1:26-28). If on program to reveal the truth in opposition to falsehood, I might possibly attend to convey God's word to those open to truth but if in the audience, you might attend to gather info for apologetic purposes, but be careful that you're not paying to support such an effort. Finally, I think that there's nothing I can learn from such a seminar that is trustworthy since Biblical values aren't honored from the top down. I also would not go because my testimony is too important, and my presence might lead others astray. (Rom.14:13-23)
Prayerfully consider the Spirit's leading in this matter and follow the Word!
God bless!
Appreciate your thoughts on my response, brothers!”
Bruce’s response:
👍🏾 Pastor Willie, Great explanation. Three points to consider:
1. The president is gay - Strike one
2. It's not a Christian seminar - Strike two
3. A Christian's presence will likely either disillusion some believers or embolden the immature/weak (they have no apologetic skills) to attend and end up compromising.
Strike three. OUT!
Such seminars are subterfuges to promote unbiblical ideologies. They aim to draw believers to the middle ground and gradually sway them to fully accept their perverted stance.
As Don said, ‘Stay away.’ It's a waste of time.”
Blessings!
