Question From My 17 Year-old Grandson (DJ):

“Hey gigi, I have a question about Genesis. How come the serpent is mentioned in the beginning tempting Eve to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil but not present when Cain is tempted and decides to murder Abel?”

My answer:

“Great question, DJ.

The serpent was indwelled by Satan. He doesn't usually appear in a physical body like he did in the serpent to deceive Eve.

He was spiritually present inside Cain which made it possible for him to kill Abel.

Jesus said the devil ‘was a murderer from the beginning’ (John 8:44), meaning in the beginning when Cain and Able were living.

Even today, Satan influences people to murder, steal, lie, kidnap, rape, disbelieve in God and the Bible, etc. As a wicked unseen spirit, Satan (also called the devil and the enemy), is also ‘a liar and the father of lies’ (John 8:44).

He also ‘prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour’ (1 Peter 5:8).

So, while he was in the serpent and in Cain, he was also in Cain. Today, he strongly influences people (2Timothy 2:26) and uses his demons to get inside only unsaved people.

I hope that helps.

I love you. 🙏🏾❤️

Blessings!
