Self Defense or Not

A dear brother sent the link below to a video to get my response:

Here’s my response:

He has quite a testimony and shows evidence that he’s familiar with Scripture. His experience in the bathroom is interesting. I was listening to see if he was clearly going to say He believed Jesus died for his sins and rose from the dead (the basic gospel). That’s not to say he doesn’t believe the gospel. He was correct in viewing his past sins as under the blood. I would like to learn more about his testimony, particularly how he became a pastor and what is his church’s doctrinal statement. I’m not denying nor questioning his salvation. I’d like to know more about him.

As to the matter of carrying a gun, I don’t see where the Bible clearly forbids Christians to do so. Self defense is not unbiblical, but since “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim 3:12), we have to realize that it may be God’s will for us to suffer which would rule out self defense. Prayerfully read 1 Peter 3:13-18.

Being a big time ex-gangster, Pastor Phillip may feel he needs a gun to protect himself from hit men who’s out to get him for leaving the gang. The challenge for him (and us) is to be peaceful (Rom. 12:18; Heb. 12:14) even if it’s God’s will for us to suffer. So, while we protect ourselves, our families, and our property, we need to know when suffering is God’s will for us.

Feedback is welcome.

Blessings!
