A Mother Concerned About Her Lesbian Daughter

I was informed about this mother. I don’t know if she is a believer or not. Here is how I expressed my concern:

My heart goes out to her, having stage 4 cancer and a homosexual daughter.

First, she said the words, “thou shalt not,” are not directly used in reference to homosexuality. However, there are direct references that condemn lesbianism which is the same as homosexuality (Rom. 1:26; 1 Cor. 6:9-10).

Second, understandably, she doesn’t want her lesbian daughter to be mistreated while it seems that other sinners get special treatment (forgiveness, restoration, etc.). But, her focus should primarily be on how God sees sin and not be bothered by man’s impartial treatment of it.

Third, God condemns sin (Rom. 3:23) but will save the sinner who genuinely trusts Christ, believing He died for his/her sin and rose from the dead (1 Cor. 15:1-4). That, of course, includes homosexuals (1 Cor. 6:11). They can be delivered, but they must acknowledge that they are sinners regardless of whatever particular sin to which they are in bondage.

Fourth, That mother is right to believe that God loves everybody (John 3:16), but she’s wrong to believe that God’s love means no repentance (Rom. 2:4). Some of her statements were vague, and she seems to want to justify her daughter on the basis of other’s bias against her. The mother indicated that she’s bitter. I hope she knows the Lord and that her daughter gets delivered by trusting Christ as Savior. That’s the bottom line, not how biased people pick and choose which sins to forgive and which not to forgive.

I hope that helps.”

Blessings!
